Kensington Tutors provide advice and guidance to families and prospective students, wishing to study in UK or USA Universities. Our team is made up of people who have worked in UK Independent schools and Universities. Our UCAS and Oxbridge specialists have many years experience in supporting applicants. This enables us to provide current, professional, impartial guidance in not only choosing the best course and University, but in helping you or your child through the whole process, from first thoughts to actually arriving at University.

The Process

  1. Initial Meeting. We start with a short, free initial meeting, between the parents, student and a Director. This is to ensure an initial understanding of what you wish to get from the process, and for you to meet us and feel confident in your choice of educational support.

  2. Consultation. We then meet with the parents and student, to discuss your goals in detail, your criteria for both a choice of course and a particular university, your priorities, and to really get to know you well. Here we will discuss different course and University options and the criteria for entry. You will also get to meet the specialist consultant who will be with you throughout the process. We have specialists for general University applications, for Oxbridge and the entry tests that will be required, for Medical/Veterinary Applications or for Universities outside the UK. The consultant who is the best fit for your specific situation will be with you throughout your journey, assisting with the process, deadlines and application. The Directors will be helping alongside wherever and whenever required. The UCAS application includes a Personal Statement, and your consultant will support you with this, advising you on how to promote your skills, interests and achievements, tie in your relevant and knowledge you have from your studies and provide guidance where gaps are identified.

  3. University Test Preparation & Reading. Many courses and Universities will require preparation for entry assessments such as UK University Tests, including the familiar Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA),  Mathematics Admission Test (MAT), BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) plus tests that cover a range of subjects including English, Language, History, Philosophy and Physics. Preparing for these is a large scale job for the applicant, and our specialists will assist with tutoring for the assessments over the months in advance of testing. Reading before University is equally important and we will help you to choose appropriate material, tailoring it towards your specialist interests in the subject that you are wanting to study.

  4. Interview Preparation. Where an interview is part of the application process, for example Oxbridge and Medicine, your consultant will carry out a number of practice sessions with feedback, in advance of the University interview. Most students will have two or three sessions, to build up their confidence and become familiar in the style of interviews, including often seen elements such as ethics in Medical interviews or problem solving in Physics. Where Universities are putting on panel interviews, we will replicate this as well.

My daughter sat her GCSEs. Physics was probably her weakest subject and she described it as “scary”. The tutoring sessions were invaluable. Not only did he manage to get her to grasp the many difficult concepts she was struggling with but in his very calm manner, he took her fear of the subject away giving her that much needed confidence. He also helped her with exam technique, explaining what the examiner was looking for thus ensuring she got the full marks for specific questions. Josie says “he broke things down then built them up step by step.” She attained an A (double science) which a few months prior would have been unthinkable. Thank you.
